At today's press conference, the civic movement “AMAN” called citizens to join the 6th protest against price increases, which will start at 18:00 hrs, as every Tuesday, at the traditional place between the gate “Macedonia”, the EVN building and the offices of the Regulatory Commission in the centre of Skopje.
“AMAN” stresses that for more than a month they are protesting in Skopje and in the major cities throughout the country, against the constant increase of prices of fuel, electricity, central heating, and that will continue to do so until the well-known demands of citizens are met.
Regarding the protest of the citizens from the initiative “IZGOR- privatizacija”(Burning Privatization), “AMAN” says that they agree that one of the reasons for the rising prices of electricity is the privatization of EVN, and called upon these citizens, having in mind that the privatizations in the energy sector result in increases of electricity prices, to join “AMAN” in opposing the additional capitalization, or partial privatization of ELEM. "We want to emphasize that, besides EVN’s privatization, all other privatizations of strategic resources in the past were harmful. Political structures changed in government, and although they had and have all the tools to prevent and punish abuses and cheap sell-out of what was being built by the citizens for decades, they did not and are not doing it ", it is stressed in today's press-release of “AMAN”.
This citizens’ initiative warns the formal political structures, both in government and opposition, to stop trying to instrumentalize citizens, and urged them to get down working and improving the life of the people instead. "If they overcome themselves and succeed in this, the fear of AMAN, which forces them to these translucent games, will be gone, the citizens will have no need of such initiatives, while the politicians, from formal, will become again true representatives of citizens. Until then, the citizens will no longer step back, but become more louder and demonstrate their sovereignty more decisively. As a start, every Tuesday at 18 hrs, until the realization of our demands“, it is said in AMAN’s press release.
